Here Is The Next Tip On Eating Disorders and How It Can Hurt Your Health.

Weight Loss, Wellness And Feeling Distressed

How does binge eating affect your weight management? Binge eating disorders generally create a sense of ‘out of control’ eating. By that I mean, they eat alone, until they feel sick or when they aren’t hungry. Obviously this affects weight management. Feelings such as guilt, sadness, and shame follow binge eating. Because this can feel embarrassing, people hide their behaviors.

Now, don’t confuse this with Bulimia. They seem similar but they are different. The main difference is what people with bulimia do after binging. They often ‘purge’ themselves in various ways.

Binge eating disorder affects people, regardless of sex, race, weight or age. Although women are more likely to have it, men also develop disorders. More that six million Americans are believed to have this condition. Men will more likely have it from ages 30-50.

So how does this affect weight?

People who struggle with Binge eating disorder typically struggle with their weight. About two-thirds of the people are classified as obese and as many as 30% who sought weight loss help, suffered from the disorder. People who are overweight or obese are also at risk for related health concerns such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

This is how a Weight Loss and Health Coach can help.

People with binge eating disorder usually have other emotional or mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and substance abuse. They may feel stress which can cause problems with sleeping. A person may struggle with low self esteem or ‘fat eyes’ (aka. body image shame).

Health Coaches are trained to look for these identifiers, develop a health and wellness plan and also help with weight loss.

This tip is developed from research and information by Health Coach, Nutrition and Psychiatry experts from institutes such as Ichan School of Medicine and the American Psychiatric Association.
